?????????????

Aaron is our fifth FlyingMonkey (MONOVoldador)! Want to know why he decided to skydive for Mona?

“I skydived for Mona because I’m an animal lover and fight for animal rights. I’ve always wanted to skydive and what better way to do so than by supporting a good cause and people that compensate the meanness and cruelty of others by doing some good in this world”

Marta Borràs, tandem skydiver part of the 2015 Flyingmonkeys team.

“My motivation for signing up for this event has been a combination of several dreams of mine. I have been wanting to skydive for a while now, but I didn’t want to do it by myself and no one wanted to jump with me. But then I saw this event and thought ‘perfect, that’s my only opportunity! I will finally be able to skydive and all at the same time I’ll do it for a good cause!’
I’ve loved animals since I was a kid, they’ve always held a special place in my heart! This love and empathy that I had and still have for them was so strong that 10 years ago I decided to become vegan, it was an important step for me and I truly felt like I needed to do it. I work with different associations and participate in events in order to raise money for animals and educate society on captivity in places such as : circuses, dolphinariums ..

SkyMONA 2015- Flyingmonkeys II Edition

Tags :

On September 19th, the MONA Foundation will be back in its monkey costume and will once again skydive for a great cause : to give Cheeta a second chance.

Here at Mona we are getting ready to transit Cheeta from her zoo in Fuerteventura to our center, she is the sole survivor of a zoo escape. Unforntunetly, King and Felipa, Cheeta’s family were killed during the escape.

Will you skydive for Cheeta and the MONA Foundation?

This year we are hoping to put together a group of skydivers to make up a valient and dynamic team : the Flyingmonkeys.  You will skydive in tamdem, therefore there is no need to be an experienced skydiver, all you need is courage, a monkey costume and the desire to have a good time. The experts, Skydive Empuriabrava will take care of the rest. This event is a novelty in Spain, however in other countries like England it has been very comun way of raising funds.

A minute long  4 000 meters free fall, which will give you an adrenaline rush, you will feel free as a bird! How does that sound? Fun? Then don’t wait one more second and sign up!

What is new this time around?

This time there will not only be jumps! Even if you’re not looking for an adrenaline rush there will be a lot of activities for you to do right here on the ground! We have organized a full day of activies for all ages!

There will be stands and activities like: Face painting, Fashion MonaWeek, young researchers, storytelling, and exhibition of skydiving dubbers, a visit in one of the planes, live music by the rock group ‘Pelut’, a presentation by famous skydiver Santi Corella (pioneer in the world of skydiving with free fall two world records) of his new book ‘Frontera Límite’, a bar and restaurant service and many more surprises!

It will be a very special day during which fun and solidarity will go hand in hand!

During the last edition, 5 brave flyingmonkeys took the jump and raised more than 5 000 euros that Mona used to purchase new veterinary equipment! This year our goal is to raise part of the 18 000 euros that we need to take Cheeta in, buy her food for one year and heal the bullet wounds she received during the escape.

If you’ve always dreamed of skydiving then look no further! Sign up to make your dream a reality and at the same give back to a worthy cause!

Vaya Fauna on Tele5 or how to promote the animal cruelty

Tomorrow will mark a week since the first airing of the program Vaya Fauna. Social media has been blowing up and we hope that Tele5 takes note. And not only them, but also our entire society! The program ranked number 1 in ratings all through Spain and Catalunya.

For the past 15 years we have conscientiously worked educating children and adults about respecting the animals and the environment, and we have noticed a small positive change with our visitors. We have started to notice that more information is circulating about the protection of animals and general more awareness coming from the people.

However, to our great horror, this past July 1st aired the program Vaya Fauna on Tele5. The latter goes against all the work that we have done to get the country up to speed on animal protection. Vaya Fauna is an old and dusty show that could be coming straight out of the Middle Ages. It showcases a trumpet playing bear, that jumps and does cartwheels, and a baby feline used only as a photo prop all while promoting the holding of exotic animals as pets… In the first show, no primate was showcased but we are locked and loaded for the day a macaque or baboon comes walking out in a costume and made to do silly things.

The MONA Foundation has been working towards rescuing primates that have worked in the circus, done shows, appeared on Tv, etc,  since 2001. The individuals that arrive at our sanctuary are in horrid conditions and the worst is that those primates have had a terrible life full of mistreatments, cruelty and social isolation just so that someone at home could laugh at a chimpanzee in an ad or even receive a birthday card with a ‘smiling’ chimp on it. Then for years you try to cure their psychological problems, their auto inflicted wounds, their pathologic fears, their apathy… just so a so called expert can go about telling you that ‘that’s not cruelty, they talk to them and they treat them well’.

Please sign this petition fo Tele5 to give Vaya Fauna the axe.
